This existing Cape Cod style home is located in Winslow, NJ on a quiet rural road. The basis of design hinges on expanding the footprint of the current house by adding a two-story addition as well as completely renovating the existing interior to bring the home into the 21st century. The homeowner expressed interest in keeping the original character of the home throughout the design as the house was built by a grandfather in the 1940s and holds sentimental value. The existing first floor of the home has been reimagined as an open concept complete with a sunroom now being used as a dining room and the existing wood burning fireplace repurposed into a double-sided gas fireplace. A new covered front porch with a standing seam metal roof frames out the existing house footprint while a large new rear deck adds useable outdoor space. A new addition expands the house footprint, adding a large primary suite on the first floor with a bonus bedroom and sitting room on the second floor. Access is provided to the new addition from both the first and second floors, fully integrating the old with the new. The exterior consists of white board and batten, autumn harvest brick, black roofs and wood accents to soften the contrasting tones for a transitional, clean exterior.
